Start with the fit
Five checks, in the mirror: a little shirt cuff showing below the sleeve, shoulders that end where his do, a jacket that covers his seat, trousers that just touch the shoe, and a collar that closes without pinching. Sleeves and trouser length are a quick alteration; shoulders and jacket length aren't.
Get him to the fitting
Book the first appointment for the two of you: it costs nothing and there's no obligation. Bring the suit he likes best, even if it no longer fits, because it tells Sam what he's comfortable in. Let Sam talk about the fit; you talk about the day. If he can't get away, Sam comes to his office for the first appointment.
Let the shirt and shoes do half the work
A white or pale blue shirt that fits his neck, dark shoes that are polished, and a belt that matches them. Men who own one good suit usually let it down at the edges, and the edges are the easiest part to fix.

One suit, worn long after the wedding
Choose his wedding suit so it works again: navy or charcoal in a plain cloth, and without the waistcoat and with a different tie it's the suit for every dinner, holiday and interview after. The jacket on its own goes with chinos.

Send the pair to Sam, or book an appointment. The suit is measured and made at the studio in Vaughan; two to three months before the wedding is comfortable, and the groomsmen can be drawn to match.

Should the groom match the bride?
He should go with her, not match her. The gown sets the formality and the colour of the day; his suit answers it in its own terms: the right level of dress, a shirt that agrees with her white, and at most one echo of her colour, usually the tie.
What shirt goes with an ivory wedding dress?
An ivory shirt, or a soft white. A bright white shirt beside an ivory gown makes the gown look yellow in photographs; ivory beside ivory reads as one warm white. A bright white gown takes a bright white shirt for the same reason.
Can the groom see the dress before the wedding?
He does not need to. The Gown Match gives you two links: the pair, with the gown, for your mother, your sister or your bridesmaids, and the suit alone for him. His link shows his suit and nothing else.
Do you make or sell wedding gowns?
No. Sam makes men's suits, dinner suits and shirts. We don't make, sell or recommend gowns, and nobody pays us to mention one; the gown on this page is only ever a shape, a colour and a fabric.
What if the invitation says black tie?
Then he wears a dinner suit whatever the gown: black or midnight blue, satin lapels and a bow tie. Choose Black tie under the dress code and the match follows it.
How do I help my partner dress better?
Start with the fit, not the clothes: sleeves that show a little shirt cuff, trousers that just touch the shoe, shoulders that end where his do. Then a shirt that fits his neck and polished dark shoes. Sleeves and hems on a suit he already owns are a quick alteration, and a first appointment with Sam costs nothing.
When should the groom order his suit?
Two to three months before the wedding is comfortable. A suit takes three to four weeks with one fitting on the finished garment, and twelve days is possible in a real hurry.
