Do you make tailoring for women?

Yes, drafted for a woman's frame from the first line rather than adapted down from a man's block. Measured and fitted by Sam at the Vaughan studio, three to four weeks on the bench, and the pattern is kept so the next jacket starts where this one finished.

A great deal of womenswear is cut to a size chart and altered toward you. Here a pattern is built from your own measurements, so a jacket closes cleanly, a skirt sits at your waist, and trousers fall from the hip the way they should. It is the same made-to-fit method, cut for a woman's proportions.

A tailored suit for the office or the courtroom, a sharp blazer to wear with everything, a skirt or trousers made to match. Considered, graceful, and kept on a pattern for the next one.

In their own words

What people actually said.

Unedited · Google reviews

Always bought my suits off the rack and always struggled with getting a quality suit that fit. A friend recommended I try Sam and I don't think I'll ever switch back. Sam has an extremely wide selection of fabrics and the detail he puts in every suit is truly remarkable. From the fit to choosing my fabric and design, Sam will be my go-to.

Common questions

Good to know.

Straight answers
Is this cut from a men's pattern?

No, and that is the whole point. A woman's jacket is drafted for her frame from the first line: the bust, the waist suppression, the shoulder slope and the hip are all separate problems, not a men's block taken in.

What can Sam make?

Jackets, trousers, skirts and full suits, plus shirts and coats. If it is tailoring rather than dressmaking, it is very likely in range. Bring a picture if that is easier than words.

Trouser suit or skirt suit?

Whichever you actually wear. A trouser suit is the more versatile and the more common request; a skirt suit reads more formal in some rooms. Many clients have the jacket made first and add the second bottom later off the same pattern.

How many fittings?

Usually one, on the finished garment. For a build that is harder to fit, or a first commission where the shape matters, Sam will make a sample to try on before the good fabric is cut.

How long does it take?

Three to four weeks on the bench for a jacket or a suit, two to three for a shirt. Half is paid when the fabric is chosen and half on delivery, with the alterations that get it right included.

Can I reorder without another fitting?

Yes. The pattern is kept, so a second jacket or another pair of trousers is a phone call and a fabric choice rather than starting again.

Do you make women’s suits?

Yes. Bespoke women's suits, blazers, skirts and trousers, drafted from your own measurements rather than adapted from a men's or a factory pattern. Cut for a woman's proportions.

Can you make a skirt suit or a trouser suit?

Either: a matched skirt- or trouser-suit, or separates cut to mix. A pencil or A-line skirt, or trousers cut from the hip, finished to your line.

Is it the same process as the menswear?

The same bespoke method (a pattern drafted to you, fittings, and hand finishing), cut for a woman's frame, and kept on file for the next one.
