Does Sam make anything less formal than a suit?
Yes: soft unstructured jackets, odd trousers and shirts for days off the clock, cut to their own patterns from the same kept measurements as the formal wardrobe. Measured at the Vaughan studio, two to three weeks for a shirt and three to four for a jacket.
A soft, unstructured sport coat is the hardest-working garment a man owns: thrown over a shirt for dinner, worn open on a Sunday, dressed up or down in a second. Cut to your shoulders with little padding, it feels like a favourite cardigan and looks like tailoring.

What makes a casual jacket different from a suit jacket?
Less structure. A soft jacket drops the heavy canvas and padding, so it moves like a cardigan and drapes off the shoulder rather than holding a line. It is a different garment, not a suit jacket in a louder fabric.
What do I wear an odd jacket with?
Trousers in a clearly different fabric and weight, not orphaned suit trousers, which always look like exactly that. Grey flannel under a tweed, or a navy hopsack, is the reliable answer, and Sam can cut both to the same pattern.
Which fabrics work for a soft jacket?
Ones with texture, because texture is what reads casual: hopsack, tweed, linen blends for summer, corduroy in the cold. A smooth worsted in a soft jacket tends to look like a suit that has lost its trousers.
Can it be dressed up?
To a point. A soft navy jacket with a shirt and good trousers is right for most rooms that are not a boardroom or a wedding. It will not stand in for a suit, and Sam would rather say so than sell you one garment for two jobs.
How long does it take?
Three to four weeks for a jacket, two to three for shirts and trousers. Once the pattern is on file, the next one is a phone call.
Does it use the same pattern as my suits?
It starts from it, then relaxes: more room through the chest and a softer shoulder, because the point of the garment is comfort. Same numbers, different intent.
Do you make casual jackets, not just suits?
Yes. Soft, unstructured sport coats and blazers are some of my favourite things to make. Cut to your shoulders with little padding, they feel easy and look like proper tailoring.
Can you make chinos and casual trousers?
Yes: cotton and linen trousers cut to your rise and break, on their own or to pair with a sport coat. Same fit, less formality.
