Can a suit be made without any animal fibre?
Yes. The fabric, the canvas, the lining, the thread and the buttons all have non-animal alternatives, and the whole garment is built from them rather than one part swapped out. Measured and fitted at the Vaughan studio, three to four weeks on the bench.
Choosing vegan shouldn't mean settling for a boxy, plastic-feeling suit. Sam works with plant-based and cruelty-free fabrics (organic cottons, linens, and modern vegan wools and blends) and builds them with the same hand construction as any other garment.
The details are considered too: vegan linings, corozo (nut) or recycled buttons instead of horn, and no animal-derived interlinings where you'd rather avoid them. A suit that's honest all the way through.

What actually makes a normal suit non-vegan?
More than the fabric. A conventional jacket can carry wool or horsehair canvas in the chest, silk in the lining or the thread, and horn or mother-of-pearl buttons. Swapping the outer fabric alone still leaves an animal-derived garment underneath.
So what goes into a vegan one?
Every layer is chosen instead of assumed: a non-animal fabric, a synthetic or plant-fibre canvas, cupro or viscose lining, polyester thread, and corozo, galalith-free resin or fabric-covered buttons. Sam can tell you what each component in your garment is, which is the part most shops cannot.
Will it wear as well as wool?
Differently, and it would be daft to pretend otherwise. Wool breathes and recovers from creasing in ways the alternatives still do not match, and Sam will say so rather than pretend otherwise. What a made vegan suit does give you is a fit no rack suit will, and construction that is not glued together.
Is it fused?
No. Sam does not fuse suits, and that does not change here: a non-animal canvas is floated in the same way a wool one would be. Fusing is the shortcut that makes a chest bubble, whatever the fabric is made of.
How long does it take?
Three to four weeks on the bench, the same as any other suit. Fabric choice can take a little longer at the consultation, simply because the range of non-animal suiting is narrower and worth seeing properly.
Can shirts and coats be done the same way?
Yes. Cotton and linen shirting is already animal-free; the things to watch are the interlining in a collar and the buttons. Coats are the harder one, because warmth without wool takes some thought, and Sam will be straight with you about the trade.
