When should you order a prom suit?
Six to eight weeks before prom is right. A suit takes three to four weeks with one fitting on the finished suit, and a teenager can still grow, so the fitting is best kept for the last couple of weeks before the night. Twelve days is possible in a real hurry.
A teenager's frame is the hardest to buy for off the rack: long in the arm, narrow in the waist, still filling out in the shoulder. Cut to measure, the suit fits the young man he is on the night, with a little room left in the seams to let out as he grows, and the measurements kept on file for the next one.
A dinner suit for a black-tie prom, or a sharp navy or charcoal suit that will see him through a high school graduation, a first interview and a cousin's wedding. He can draw it himself on the Drawing Board first, and friends who want to match can be booked together.

A tuxedo or a suit for prom?
If the prom is black tie, or he wants the night to feel like one, a dinner suit: midnight or black, satin lapels and a bow tie. If he wants something he will wear again all year, a navy or charcoal suit, dressed up with a good tie. The suit gets more wear; the tuxedo makes more of the night.
When should we order?
Six to eight weeks before prom. Making takes three to four weeks, and the fitting is best kept close to the night so a late growth spurt is caught before it rather than after. Twelve days is possible in a real hurry.
Will it still fit next year?
Usually for a while, yes: the seams are left with room to let out at the sleeve, the waist and the hem, and the measurements stay on file. A young man who is still growing fast will outgrow any suit eventually, and Sam will say so rather than sell a size too big.
Is it for grade 8 graduation too?
Yes. Grade 8 and high school graduations are the same job as prom: a suit that fits a growing frame and looks right in the photographs. The same six-to-eight-week timing applies.
Can he design it himself?
Yes. On the Drawing Board he can try the cloth, the lapels, the bow tie or a colour of tie, and bring the drawing to the appointment. Sam will make it or tell him honestly what would work better.
Isn't renting cheaper?
For one night, usually. A rental is cut for whoever wore it last and goes back the next day; a suit made for him fits on the night and is his for everything after. Sam gives one firm price before anything is cut, so you can decide with the real number.
