Do the groomsmen have to match exactly?
No. The strongest parties match the cloth and the cut and let one thing vary, usually the tie, or nothing at all. What matters is that the groom stands apart from them, and that the whole row looks like it was planned together.
How should the groom stand apart from his groomsmen?
With one or two deliberate differences, not five: a waistcoat where they go without, peak lapels where they wear notch, his own tie, or a slightly deeper cloth. The board draws each one so you can see where it stops being subtle.
Should the fathers match the groomsmen?

What if a groomsman lives out of town?
A local tailor can take his measurements and send them to Sam. Sam will say exactly what he needs; the final fitting is at the studio when he is in town for the wedding.
