Prom and graduation 2027: the last day to order, around March Break, Pesach and Shavuos
Updated October 2026 · Sam’s Menswear editorial team
Prom is the first time most young men wear something made for them. It is also the order most often left too late. Every school sets its own date, the dates arrive in a group chat in April, and by then the calendar has two Jewish festivals and a long weekend in it.
Here is the arithmetic, done early.
The fixed dates (school boards, 2026–27)
| Date | |
|---|---|
| Family Day | Mon 15 Feb 2027 |
| March Break | Mon 15 to Fri 19 Mar |
| Good Friday, Easter Monday | Fri 26 Mar, Mon 29 Mar |
| Victoria Day | Mon 24 May |
| Last day of secondary classes | Mon 28 Jun (TDSB, TCDSB, YRDSB) |
The dates are from the TDSB, TCDSB and YRDSB published calendars. Proms and graduation ceremonies are set school by school, and no board publishes them. At the schools that have posted dates, proms tend to fall in late May and graduations in the last week of June. Check yours.
The studio’s calendar
- A suit or a tuxedo takes three to four weeks, with one fitting on the finished garment.
- A rush is twelve days, only if the cloth is in stock, and a favour rather than a plan.
- Pesach: the studio is closed on Thursday and Friday 22 and 23 April, and on Wednesday and Thursday 28 and 29 April. In between, 25 to 27 April, it is open by appointment only.
- Shavuos: the studio is closed Friday 11 June, and Saturday as always.
- Every week: closed on Saturdays, open Sundays 9 am to 8 pm, Fridays until 2 pm.
March Break is the easiest week of the spring for a student: no classes, and the studio open as usual.
The last day to order
| For | Comfortable (four weeks) | Rush, if the cloth is in stock |
|---|---|---|
| A prom on Thu 20 May | Tue 20 Apr | Sat 8 May (so Fri 7 May) |
| A prom on Thu 27 May | Tue 20 Apr, before Pesach | Sat 15 May (so Fri 14 May) |
| A graduation on Thu 24 Jun | Thu 27 May | Thu 10 Jun |
| A graduation on Mon 28 Jun | Mon 31 May | Wed 16 Jun |
For a late-May prom, four weeks back lands inside Pesach, when the studio is closed. The practical answer is to order before it: by Tuesday 20 April, or during March Break. A June graduation is easier, but Shavuos closes the studio on Friday 11 June, right in the middle of the rush window, so do not plan on a last-minute collection that week.
One suit for both nights
The prom suit and the graduation suit can be the same suit. A dark navy or charcoal, cut well, is right for a dinner and right for a stage, and it will still be the suit he wears to his first interview. A tuxedo is the other choice if the prom asks for black tie. The custom tuxedo →
A young man’s body is still changing at seventeen and eighteen. A suit made to measure can be cut with something in reserve at the hem and the waist, so it follows him a little way into university. Prom suits and tuxedos →
Sam can come to your home for the first appointment and the fitting, which is often the easiest way to get a teenager measured.
