Waistband

The waistband can be plain or have a tab closure, which is a small piece of fabric that extends from the waistband and fastens with a button. Belt loops can be added to accommodate a belt.

Fly

The fly can be a zipper, button or a combination of the two. Button flys are often seen on more formal pants like tuxedos.

Pockets

Trousers usually have two side pockets and two back pockets, with different pocket styles such as jetted or patch. A coin pocket can also be added near the waistband.

Pleats can be added to the front of the trousers to provide more room in the hip area. Flat-front trousers, without pleats, have become more popular recently.
